Hi, my name is David Walsh, and I’ve been a Product Launch Specialist for a few years now. Despite it being a known thing in the internet marketing world, it is still something that draws blank faces to many when I mention what it is.

Now, think back when Apple releases a new iPhone. What happens? There is lots of buzz in the media, there are journalists writing about it everywhere, there are people camping out in front of stores to get their hands on it. The marketplace it seriously buzzing with iPhone fever.
The same happened with a Harry Potter book. There were Harry Potter Parties, people camping out for days at book stores to be the first ones getting their hands on the book. And, the media and publishing world was going crazy all over one little book.
They’re just 2 products out of millions released every year. How come we know about them and not the other ones? What did they do different from the products that come out, many of which are beneficial to us and could possibly save our life some day?
Well, the biggest thing that separates the iPhone and almost every other product that is released to the world every day is that Apple create and Event around the launch of their product.
An Event?
Yes, it’s an event. They set the date for their launch, and that’s the day that everyone is waiting for to get their hands on that particular product.
You will also notice that none of Apple’s competitors in the phone industry will launch a phone on the same day as the iPhone. That would be marketing suicide on their behalf, as their product will get lost in the buzz around the iPhone.
Hollywood have been doing this for years. You never see 2 blockbuster movies come out on the same weekend. They are always a few weeks apart, as the studios are creating events around these movies themselves.
Do you think this will have an effect on sales? Of course it does. We see Apple do millions of dollars on the day of release of a new iPhone. Movies can make hundreds of millions of dollars in one weekend with its release. Creating events around products definitely have a positive impact on sales.
Well, in the internet marketing world, the “Event” around a product release is called a Product Launch, and the person who creates that Event is a Product Launch Manager.

Product Launch Formula was created by Jeff Walker. After years of selling trading advice online, he saw a pattern in how successful products were released online and investigated further.

It uses similar principles as Mass Control from Frank Kern. Mass Control takes a slightly different approach to the launch process than Product Launch Formula in that PLF looks at the whole launch process, and even before, whereas Mass Control looks at the launch from the launch only.
